Пресса про РК ЭГЕР Sport.telegraph.co.uk NATIONAL SCHOOLS SEVENS Romanians kick off foreign invasion By Christopher Lyles
THE annual Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens tournament in London, now
in its 68th year and supported for a third time by Wooden Spoon, rugby union's
leading charity, has a more international flavour than ever this week.
Sides from Romania, Hungary,
Ukraine, Switzerland and South Africa have all accepted invitations from Rose
Tanner, the tireless . and
ever-cheerful organiser of an event that has grown from small beginnings in
1939, when there were 16 teams. This year, with 597 entries spread over six competitions,
there will be more than 7,000 players aged between 13 and 18 participating in a
record number of 1,150 matches on the playing fields of Wimbledon Common and
Rosslyn Park. Brasov, from the picturesque
Carpathian mountain range in Transylvania, are one of two Romanian entrants,
while Hungary are represented by the Magyars, who play in the girls tournament
that starts on Thursday. The two South African schools - Nominganiselo and
Lagunya - are both from Cape Town and play in the open tournament. Last year's
winners were Millfield, and Wellington College won the festival section. In the juniors tournament, which
started yesterday, Brasov played out of their socks to advance to the knockout
stages. After disposing of Icknield (41-5) and Pant (19-5), they topped their
group thanks to a pulsating 26-17 victory against Emanuel. Nor was it a disgrace
for the Romanians to lose 38-14 to a very strong Judd side in the first knockout
phase.. Judd subsequently beat Hymers -
who had eased past champions Cwm Rhymni 26-10 in the previous round - to take
their place in today's quarter - finals.
Eager, the Ukrainian side, also performed most creditably, with a 35-24 defeat
by Llangatwg being the pick of their results. All fixtures and results can be found on wtow.ns7.co.uk
